If the server that sent the message was your old mail system or a malicious system on the internet for example the spf check might fail and the message wouldn t be.

A record name is the descriptor for your domain entry that effectively creates a subdomain for the record. If the name server does not have any information on the name the request will be forwarded on. We need the dns system and its records to keep the internet functioning and connected. The settings contained within the zone file only work if your domain s name servers are pointing to domain if the name servers are pointing to another company then the domain would be using the other company s dns settings.
An email system that receives an email from your domain looks at the spf record and if the email server that sent the message was an office 365 server the message is accepted. A zone file contains the mappings between ip addresses and names within that subset in the form of individual resource records that point to different aspects of the domain.
